Top 10 Ways to Beat “Burnout” within your Workplace
According to Statistics Canada, “51% of Canadian Employees experience stress within the work place.” Are you part of this 51%?
Are you feeling like the workday is never ending? Is every conversation that takes place within your workplace negative? Do you no longer feel that you are getting the satisfaction you are looking for from your current job? Are you contemplating changing career paths? If you answered yes to any of the above questions it’s likely that you are experiencing “burnout” within your workplace.

1. Avoid Negativity – try to avoid gossiping and negative thinking within the work place. Focus on the positive things that surround you within your working environment.
2. Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff – There are many situations that may arise in your work place that are beyond your control. Instead of dwelling on the mistake and taking it out on your self turn it into a positive, learning experience.
3. Set the Blackberry Down – If you are one of those people that have their blackberry glued to their hands, you must realize that when work hours are over, personal time is a MUST. Turn those phones off and focus on things that are enjoyable in your free time.
4. Try to Get Some Routine Exercise – Regular exercise gives your mind a chance to relax and increases your energy level. When you take care of yourself physically, your productivity and focus is more likely to increase.
5. Take Regular Breaks throughout the Day – Are you one of those people that don’t take lunch breaks? A lunch break is the biggest source of stress relief throughout the work day. Try taking a break and getting out of the office– it will most definitely make a significant difference in your daily life.
6. Eat a Healthy Lunch – According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, “eating a healthy lunch can help boost our immune system, increase our energy and improve our ability to function during hectic work days.”
7. Stay Organized – Do you have an office/desk filled with clutter? It may be time to start thinking about organizing your work space. Take some time out of your day to get organized. Keeping yourself organized may lead to a more efficient work day.
8 Join a Workplace Social Event – Are you so involved with your daily work load that you don’t know your co-workers? Join an up coming event within your workplace and get to know your surroundings.
9. Don’t Take on Work that you Can’t Complete – By taking on too much work you could impact your current job responsibilities. Have regular meetings with your direct manager to go over your job description and expectations within your role.
10. Listen to Music on the Drive Home – Turn your blackberry or cell phone off and sing along to your favourite artist. This will be sure to relieve any stress you may have experienced within your work day.
